Rising Rivers

Jaystar skillfully leaped onto the Moss Stone. "Cats of MossClan!" he yowled, bringing forth cats of all ages. "The rain is making the river and lake rise. We must be ready to evacuate at any moment. Shadowfrost, Cresentpelt, and Cherrycloud, go to the top of the highest hill and watch the rivers and lake." The three cats nodded and padded over to each other, conversing quietly.
"Sparrowfur," Jaystar addressed his senior warrior. "You are in charge of getting the other warriors and the elders ready to go. Brightwater, help the kits and apprentices. Ivorypool, you can help her." Jaystar looked across his clan. "Where are Nightclaw and Brindlelight?"
"They went out on a walk, and they haven't come back yet!" Mousetail, who had been guarding the camp, meowed loudly.
"Everyone, keep a lookout for them!" Jaystar meowed. "Also, everyone try to eat at least a little bit of fresh-kill. If there is a flood, it might be a while until we eat properly again." He leaped down from the Moss Stone.

  1. Jaystar slowly pulled a mouse from the fresh-kill pile.

Clovermoon padded over to Sparrowfur. "Want me to help?" She asked, her ears pricked.

Minnowsong padded back to camp with a thrush in her jaws. She rested it on the fresh-kill pile.

Cherrycloud looked at Cresentpelt and Shadowfrost "Ready?"

Fireclaw looked over at Featherfrost, then looked away.

Nightclaw awoke suddenly as a wave splashed over his pelt. The tide had gone up! "Brindlelight!" He yowled, leaping to his paws. "Wake up!" He fluffed up his pelt as rain began to pour down.

  2. Crescentpelt dashed over to the fresh-kill pile and picked up a thrush. "Yesh," he said, his mouth muffled by feathers. "We'l need our strength."
    ~Crescentpelt

Graymist sighed and lifted the cobweb bandages from around Icepaw's eye. "Try not to crash into anything face-first or irritate your eye," she mewed to the apprentice, shooing her gently from the den. Graymist's leg was getting better, but the medicine cat knew she'd always have a little limp from now on. Graymist began retrieving herbs in preparation to evacuate.

  3. Cherrycloud eyed the thrush. "We should share that." She meowed. "We shouldn't eat too much."

  4. Brindlelight's eyes widened. "You're right!" she cried, shaking herself and looking back at Nightclaw. "Let's go before something happens," she said quickly, getting prepared to plunge into the rising water.

  5. Brookfrost looked at Jaystar."Should I send out hunting patrols out the other way?I doubt the water can reach that far is we go fast."She meowed

Sparrowfur looked at Clovermoon."Sure."He meowed and started calling for Quailfall.

Rosenight walked over to the nursery. She felt a small wave of pain come over her."Ivorypool, get Greymist."she said

  6. Jaystar nodded. "Also, make sure they scout out the high grounds for good places to sleep." He looked off into the distance. "We may be there for a while."

Quailfall padded out of her den. "What?" She meowed crossly.

Ivorypool nodded and hurried over to the medicine cats' den. "Greymist!" She meowed. "Rosenight is having her kits!"

Nightkit crept toward Rosenight, before being swept up by his mother. "Aww, man!"

Nightclaw crouched down as well, but a huge wave of water knocked the two cats off the rock. They splashed into the water, being thrown around by the currents.

  7. Graymist pricked her ears and then nodded to Ivorypool, limping quickly over, clutching herbs in her jaws. She skirted water and was beside Rosenight's side. "Here," she said, handing a stick to the queen for her to bite down on. She massaged Rosenight's stomach to help the queen's kits come easier.

Crescentpelt smiled, depositing the thrush in front of Cherrycloud and Shadowfrost. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's eat."

  8. Brindlelight clung onto the rocks that jagged up in the air, her claws groping the softened edges as she struggled to hang on. Her ears pricked, her eyes widening as she looked around. "Nightclaw?" she called, scanning the waters. "Nightclaw!"

  9. Whirlstorm called to her mate, "Cloudtooth, will you find Duskkit! I can't find him!" She curled her tail around tinykit and willowkit.

  10. Rosenight looked up."Thank you Greymist." She meowed eaisly. She pushed as a little kit slid out.

Brookfrost nodded. "Alright."She meowed. She turned to Echoflight,Gingerfrost and Firepaw."you three i want you to go in the other direction of the waters, find higher land and hunt while your at it."She meowed

"Get anything that you need read, we may have to go soon."Sparrowfur meowed to the old cat.

  11. Cherrycloud bit into the prey, thanking StarClan for the juicy kill.

Nightclaw swam strongly toward the top. He burst out of the water, shaking his head to clear his eyes of water. He spotted Brindlelight and began to swim toward her.

Jaystar paced outside the nursery, flicking his tail back and forth.

Firepaw's eyes lit up. "Alright!" He touched noses with his sister before sprinting off to Sparrowfur. "Sparrowfur, I'm going hunting!" Then he turned back to the patrol. "Ready!"

    Quailfall nodded.

  12. Smokestep sighed, stretching in the pale sunlight. His dark gray striped fur waved in the faint breeze, but the gray tabby shook out his fur, padding to the fresh kill pile in search of something to eat.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ivorypool trotted over to Smokestep. "Smokestep!" She meowed to the tom. She reached him and picked out a small mouse. "Mind if I eat with you?"

    ReplyDelete
  14. Smokestep's ears pricked, a small smile gracing across his face as he saw Ivorypool. "Of course not, Ivorypool," he purred, settling down across from her and nudging the mouse toward her. "You can have the first bite." He told her gently, his whiskers twitching.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ivorypool smiled. "Thanks." She took a small bite and passed it to Smokestep. She looked over to the nursery to see her kits messing around as usual. She smiled. "Snowkit and Nightkit are so hyper, I don't know how to stop them!" She laughed as Snowkit bowled her brother over.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Smokestep smiled softly, looking over to where the two kits where contentedly playing, his tail-tip twitching. "They're good kits, though." He meowed, sighing as he watched the tiny kits bat at each other with sheathed paws. Of course he wanted his own, tiny kits.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "I never thought I would ever have kits." Ivorypool paused. "Well, this young." She shuddered, remembering when, as an apprentice, she had been forced into mating with a rouge. She glanced at Nightkit, who sported his father's dark coat.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Smokestep's ear twitched, nodding. "I hope they don't cause you too much stress," he said, pausing for a brief moment. "You're still young, after all."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ivorypool waved her tail in the air excitedly. "Well, they should be apprenticed soon." She gasped as the rain fell heavier still. "Snowkit! Nightkit!" She meowed. "Come here!"

Snowkit bounded over to her mother, Nightkit on her heels. "Sorry, mommy." She meowed sweetly.

Ivorypool licked the tops of her kits' heads.

Cherrycloud finished. "The rain is getting harder." She meowed. "We should hurry."

    ReplyDelete
  20. Smokestep stood, shaking out his fur. "We should get into the nursery," He glanced at the kits. "Someone could catch a cold here." He noted, putting his tail over his eyes so he could still see despite the heavy downpour.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Well, Rosenight is having her kits." Ivrypool blushed, Smokestep probably didn't know what was going on.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Smokestep shook his head. "Right, sorry," he said, blinking. "Well, the warriors den? The kits could borrow my nest for the time being, if that's okay with you." He meowed. Snowkit and Nightkit were attempting to scurry underneath their mother, to hide from the rain.

He glanced at the ground, where a thick and long leaf was laying. "Here," he meowed, picking it up and holding it above Ivorypool's head, so the rain wasn't in her eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ivorypool smiled. "Thanks, and sure. Plus, I bet Snowkit and Nightkit will love that."

"Yes!" Snowkit and Nightkit sprinted to the warriors' den.

"Oh, no!" Ivorypool rolled her eyes and padded quickly after them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Smokestep held the leaf over the she-cat's head, following her into the warriors den. He tossed it outside when he was done with it, nodding toward the nest in the back. "It's over there, kits," he meowed, nudging them toward it. "You can lay there too, Ivorypool," he meowed, his face flushing slightly.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ivorypool blushed as well, then quickly licked Smokestep's cheek. She padded toward the nest. Snowkit and Nightkit had already settled down.

    "I'm hungry!" Snowkit complained.

"Oh, shoot!" Ivorypool padded to the edge of the den, then sprinted out to grab a squirrel.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Smokestep blushed, before grabbing Ivorypool's tail tip, keeping the she-cat back from the rain. "No, no, you can stay here. Let me get it for you, okay?" he rested his tail tip on her cheek for a moment, before padding out of the warriors den, quickly bounding to the fresh kill pile. He grabbed her and her kits a plump squirrel, sprinting back to the warriors den. "Here," he set in on the moss, allowing the kits to dig into it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ivorypool blinked for a minute, confused, before shaking her head and smiling to Smokestep. "Thanks." She meowed. She sat down next to her kits.

Snowkit and Nightkit bit into the squirrel, letting out purrs of delight.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Smokestep shook out his fur, licking off the rain. Of course, there was that pesky patch that he couldn't reach, on his own face and on his shoulder blades, and he let out a low growl.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ivorypool slowly reached over and licked Smokestep's shoulder blades, then his face, until he was nice and dry. "There." She purred. "I think you're all dry now."

    ReplyDelete
  30. Smokestep looked at his paws, his face flushed. "Thank you, Ivorypool," he murmured, his whiskers twitching.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ivorypool purred. She settled down next to smokestep and watched her kits.

Snowkit licked her lips. "What now?" She meowed loudly.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Smokestep shrugged, before his eyes brightened, and he picked out a clump of moss from his own nest, balling it up on the ground before the two kits. "Here," he meowed, pushing it over to them. "You two can play with that if you want too," he purred.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Snowkit leaped at the moss and threw it at her mother. "Throw it for us!"

Ivorypool yawned. "Can't you?" She meowed sleepily to Smokestep.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Smokestep's eyes widened. "Can I?" Not waiting for a response, he gripped the moss with one paw, throwing it back for the kits and watching as they playfully batted it to each other. He let out a lengthy purr. "I want to have my own, some day." He sighed, smiling.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ivorypool sat up suddenly. "R-really?" She asked. "Do you have any she-cat in mind?"

    ReplyDelete
  36. Smokestep shrugged, straightening his back. "I'm not sure yet," he meowed, glancing at the pretty she-cat. "My feelings are really...confusing at the moment, you know?" he sighed, blinking somberly at the young and beautiful cat beside him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "Uh, ok." Ivorypool looked away, blushing. "I see." She glanced back down at Snowkit and Nightkit. "These two are enough for now." She meowed. "I can't wait for the freedom of being outof the nursery, though I wouldn't mind a mate."

    ReplyDelete
  38. Smokestep smiled, giving the she-cat's cheek a long lick. "Well, the tom who gets you will be extremely lucky to have you, Ivorypool."

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ivorypool blushed. She looked into the tom's eyes. "I think I already found him." She meowed in a small voice.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Smokestep blushed, his eyes widening. "Well I believe he'll be an extremely lucky tom at that." He murmured back to her.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ivorypool purred and let herself settle into the moss. She watched the rain fall outside and her kits play enthusiastically.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Smokstep settled beside her, allowing his tail to slowly fall onto hers. The gray tabby tom let out another purr.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ivorypool entwined her tail into Smokestep's.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Smokestep smiled, pushing his muzzle closer to Ivorypool's and putting one of his paws over hers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ivorypool slowly fell asleep.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Smokestep purred, nuzzling his head onto her shoulder blades and slowly humming, watching Snowkit and Nightkit play in front of them.
