Swiftpaw padded toward his friends with an important air about him. "Guess what?" He flicked his tail back and forth impatiently.
"What?" Icepaw replied. Her white pelt glowed silver in the moonlight.
"Why don't we sneak out and explore?" Swiftpaw burst out, then slapped his tail over his mouth.
"That's a great idea!" Crowpaw jumped up excitedly.
"Uh, aren't we supposed to get permission?" Minnowpaw pointed out.
"Who cares?" Pouncepaw exclaimed. "Let's go!" He, Crowpaw, and Icepaw jumped up to join Swiftpaw. The four started out toward the entrance.
Icepaw turned back to Minnowpaw. "Aren't you coming?"
"No thanks." Minnowpaw dipped her head in embarrassment. "I'd rather not."
"Well, okay then..." Icepaw sighed and padded away. With one glance back at the silver tabby she-cat, before racing to catch up with the others.
"So, where are we going?" Icepaw asked loudly as the group crept through the undergrowth.
"I was thinking about going to the far edge of the territory, as long as we don't get caught because of you talking so loud." Swiftpaw narrowed his light green eyes at Icepaw, and the she-cat's gaze dropped to the ground.
"Don't be so harsh on her." Pouncepaw meowed, standing up for his friend. "You sound like a mentor, and you're not. Besides, she must feel uncomforable, being the only she-cat here."
"I do not!" Icepaw piped up, but remained silent the rest of the way.
"Look at that!" Crowpaw exclaimed. Towering above them was a big stone column with a wood stand above it and a steel cone hanging from a piece of rope.
"Let's go check it out!" Pouncepaw padded forward, then leaped onto the column.
"Woah!" Crowpaw eclaimed as he almost fell into the dark hole in the center of the stone circle.
Swiftpaw examined the hole. "I can't see the bottom." His eyes suddenly lit up. "Who's gonna jump down and see how deep it is?"
"I will!" Icepaw pushed forward, glaring at Swiftpaw. "I'll show you what I can do, even if I do talk too loud." She jumped into the hole.
The three toms milled around the hole, waiting. Then they heard a splash, and a screech of pain.
"Icepaw!" Without hesitation, Pouncepaw jumped after his friend. The other two followed close behind. They all landed in deep, deep water. Pouncepaw landed first, then Crowpaw landed on top of him, and Swiftpaw nearby.
"Icepaw?" Crowpaw called out into darkness.
A moan of pain came from the darkest corner. Pouncepaw swam over there awkwardly and pulled Icepaw onto his back.
"What happened?" Swiftpaw asked. No reply. "Icepaw?" Nothing. "ICEPAW!!" Still nothing.
"She's limp." Pouncepaw meowed worriedly. "She's still breathing, but it's shallow."
"What are we going to do?" Crowpaw asked in despair. "I wish we had never come here."
The next morning, Minnowpaw paced outside her den. He friends hadn't come back last night, and she was worried.
"Swiftpaw!" Winterclaw padded toward the den, calling his apprentice's name. "Swiftpaw? Where are you?"
"Don't hate me." Minnowpaw whispered.
"What?" Winterclaw asked.
"They're gone."
"Who?"
"Swiftpaw. And Icepaw and Pouncepaw and Crowpaw. They snuck out of camp last night, and theyhaven't returned."
"WHAT?" Winterclaw raced up the rocks to Jaystar's den, and disappeared inside. Soon he emerged and bounded back to Minnowpaw. "Where did they go?"
"I don't know." Minnowpaw admitted. "They said they wanted to explore."
"Thank you for the information." Winterclaw meowed, then raced off.
Minnowpaw looked up at the fast disappearing stars in Silerpelt. I wish I had never let them leave...
Poucepaw nods,"It was definetly a bad idea, but were in it now...So we just have to find a way to get out."he glanced over his back at icepaw."And quick."he mews.
ReplyDeleteCrescentpelt flicked his ears. He was worried about his apprentice, so he dashed off after Winterclaw.

Graymist heard the news, and she sighed wearily. I hope these apprentices haven't got themselves in too much trouble...

Icepaw moaned and stirred again. "Ow." She winced as she attempted to move. "My leg hurts." She whimpered.
ReplyDeleteMinnowpaw paced her tail flicked from side to side.
ReplyDeleteHollypaw raced up to the entrance. "Where's Swiftpaw?" She asked Minnowpaw frantically.
ReplyDeleteMinnowpaw looked down at her paws, "I don't know..."She whispered
ReplyDelete"What? Why not? What happened?" Hollypaw bombarded the she-cat with questions.
ReplyDeleteMousetail sighed, "Why are apprentices so curious!?" he meowed to Cherrycloud.
ReplyDeleteWhirlstorm peered out of the nursery at her kits. 'I hope they don't run off like Pouncepaw, Crowpaw, Icepaw and Swiftpaw did.'
Runningpath frowns, his tail flicking worriedly as he thought of his younger sibling and the other apprentices.
ReplyDeletePoucepaw frowns."You should try to keep it still..it might be broken."he mews.
Leapordpelt nods.
Spottedkit looks around curiously wondering what was going on.
Cherrycloud gave Mousetail a glare. "They could be in serious danger!" She growled. "How can you think of being 'curious' at a time like this?"
ReplyDeleteIcepaw nodded. "Ok. I will."
Mousetail was stunned at her response. "I don't want to think about all the different kinds of danger they could be in, so I resort to making up a story to put my at ease. I hate being jumpy and worried."
ReplyDeleteCherrycloud snorted. "Say what you like." She meowed, Then she bounded across the clearing to Runningpath. "I'm so sorry about Pouncepaw." She meowed sympathetically.
ReplyDeleteMousetail's tail drooped and he sighed.
ReplyDeleteRunningpath looks tawards Cherrycloud and nods."I still can't beleive he would go with them. That any of them would put themselves in danger."he mews.
ReplyDelete"I don't think they meant to get into trouble, they probably just wanted to sneak out." Cherrycloud smiled kindly. "But don't worry, we'll find them!"
ReplyDelete"I supose every apprentice finds a way to get into trouble some way or another.I just hope we find them before any of them get hurt."He mews, thought he smiled slightly remembering some of the things he'd done when he was as young as an apprentice.
ReplyDelete"I remember when I was an apprentice, some blind twolegs thought I was her cat. I was stuck inside it's den for a whole week!" Cherrycloud laughed.
ReplyDeleteRunningpath laughts."How did you get out?"he askes.
ReplyDeletePoucepaw looks around uncertainly, thinking."The've probably noticed that we snuck out by now."he comments, thinking.
ReplyDelete"It was Greenleaf, and I snuck out through a window in the top room." Cherrycloud smiled. "I fell out of the tree I climbed onto. Luckily, I didn't break anything, though I was bruised. Once I fell, I ran as fast as I could back to camp. Then I passed out." She paused. "I passed out because I didn't eat any kittypet food, and I was starving. But I did insist to go training the day after I got back." She finished her story with a smile.
ReplyDelete"No, duh!" Icepaw meowed, rolling her eyes.
ReplyDeleteMousetail listened to Cherrycloud's story from a distance; remembering it as if it were yesterday. He and Cherrycloud had lots of fun as apprentices, but not anymore.
ReplyDeleteWolffur paced back and forth worriedly. She may not have an apprentice but what if they were hurt!
Runningpath smiles,"It must have taken alot of determination to start training again the day after."he mews.
ReplyDeletePoucepaw flicks his tail gently, over her ears."What i mean is,what are we going to do,to get there attention?"he askes.
"Oh, psha!" Cherrycloud flicked her tail, waving the comment away. "It was fine."
ReplyDeleteIcepaw blushed. "Sorry for snapping." She meowed. "I just feel terrible..." She lay her head down on Pouncepaw's back.
Mousetail sighed and padded from camp.
ReplyDelete'Its not like life can get any worse, with the apprentices gone...' Wolffur thought. She sighed and turned to Cresentpelt. "Cresentpelt, I'd like to ask you something... I love you... and I uh.. want to know.. if you would... like to be my... my..." Wolffur sighed and meowed, "Forget this, Cresentpelt, I am desperately in love with you. I'm wondering if you feel the same way.. would you like to be my mate?" Wolffur met his handsome silver eyes, then looked at her white paws.
